What is Chinese Herbal Medicine?

Chinese herbal medicine is an ancient holistic healing system that uses carefully tailored combinations of plant parts (roots, leaves, bark, and flowers) and minerals to treat the whole person. Rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), its goal is to restore the body’s internal balance and unblock the flow of vital energy, known as “Qi”. Because it views each person’s symptoms as a distinct, individual pattern, this branch of medicine differs significantly from Western herbalism.

Individualized Formulas

Rather than prescribing a single herb for a specific symptom, practitioners almost always create a bespoke mixture of eight to 15 different ingredients. The formulation is adjusted as your health improves.

Energetic Balance

Herbs are classified by their “taste” (sweet, salty, bitter, pungent, sour) and “temperature” (hot, cold, warm, cool) to target specific organ systems and balance opposing forces like Yin and Yang.
